Macy* walked into the center clearly angry, and the pregnancy test appointment was tough. There were no smiles or even a lift in spirit as we talked with her. Her volunteer advocate came out of the room unsure of what to say that could possibly help Macy see her way out of an abortion. Macy felt like abortion was her only option; she matter-of-factly stated that, “He don’t want it, and neither do I.” What a testament to the impact of the father of the baby! Macy was abortion determined, but agreed to come back a few days later for an ultrasound. This was a glimmer of God beginning to work! On her exit survey that day, Macy shared that at Pregnancy Resources, “They listen and respect you.”
At the ultrasound Macy still seemed angry and spoke little. Her nurse noticed that Macy was “guarded” but seemed to soften a little as the appointment progressed. Macy showed no reaction to the baby on the screen. But then, she calmly said that she didn’t need information about the abortion pill because she had “decided to keep it.” Macy then asked for help getting connected with a local doctor! God is so good!
During a follow-up phone call a few days later, the nurse encouraged Macy and reminded her that she was strong enough to parent. After a pause, Macy said, “Thanks for that. That’s what my family has been telling me, too.”
Not every story at Pregnancy Resources has a happy ending. Sometimes we don’t get to know the ending – and all we can do is hope and pray. But today, Macy reminded us that hearts do soften and lives are saved. Macy’s story is a story of God’s faithfulness and it serves as an encouragement to us all. Thank you for making life-affirming care possible for Macy when her child’s life was hanging in the balance.
