It was my senior year when I met a man I will call “G.” I fell for him quickly because he came from a good family, had a nice car, and had a job. I was falling in love, but this was the honeymoon period. Later in our relationship, he became a Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. He started controlling my every move, pressuring me for sex and humiliating me. I spent all my spare time under his spell. We talked about moving in together, and I thought I could appease him. The next few weeks were good, but the lightbulb of our relationship quickly burned out. My period was due to arrive…I was late, had severe morning sickness, and was in a panic. We bought a pregnancy test, and it lit up positive very quickly. The next day, I called an area abortion clinic and had my procedure. I was heartbroken because of what I had done, but I also felt relief because I was never going to have to endure him again.
Three years after my abortion, I wanted to heal from the hurt and guilt I endured. I was working for the YWCA at the time and found a post abortion brochure. I felt God had led me down this path in my job so that I could see this brochure. I didn’t think God would forgive me, but I read Psalm 103 and knew I wanted to heal. I started the After Abortion Care program, and I realized God HAD forgiven me. I have accepted that I had an abortion, and I no longer punish myself. I have chosen to forgive “G.” This forgiveness helped me release anger and resentment. It also helped me create an enormous positive shift for me mentally and emotionally. I want to thank the people of the After Abortion Care program, who were my biggest supporters and the greatest gifts God had sent me during that time of my life.
